What Editing Has Taught Me Spiritually

In my last post, I talked about some practical tips editing has really grounded in me more as a writer.

Now, to move on, I would like to share what editing The Thrall’s Sword has taught me spiritually. (If you would like to learn more about my soon-to-be-published novel itself, click here.)

I have realized many things about God through this editing journey. I have learned that Jesus is the best Author whom I can totally trust and rely on to make my life into a beautiful masterpiece. When I trust in the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse my soul, He deletes all the bad stuff out of me bit by bit and adds good stuff to me to make me more like Himself–holy and righteous before God the Father.

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21

Still, it really isn’t about the adding or the deleting, it’s about the becoming. It’s about the getting closer to God Himself. It’s about touching a little more of heaven each page at a time.

This is a story I want to live each day, basking in His grace, totally aware that my salvation is a gift and so is this beautiful journey of becoming like Him.

It is only through Jesus, the Author of life, that anything could turn our clear, coherent, and powerful. Without Him, my life would be a mess of unnecessary gibberish, loose ends, and frustrating tangents. With Him, I can live out the grand adventure He has set before me with boldness and courage, just as I was created to do. (Ephesians 2:10). As I keep handing the pen to the good Author and Editor of my faith, I can have confidence that one day I will see His face. (Hebrews 12:2-3; 1 John 2:28)

Can you have this confidence, too?

God didn’t make any mistake in creating you, dear friends. He created you for a purpose: to live in this world like Jesus (1 John 2:6).

Give up trying to write your own story and hand the pen to the perfect Author. Let Him lead you and guide you along the pages, to achieve a satisfying story full of meaning and purpose. When you do, you can trust that every detail of your life God is work out for your good (Romans 8:28).

I certainly love Him, and I hope you do, too. Because no matter what happens in this crazy world, even in these climatic moments, God will bring about the perfect happy ending for those who choose the side that is good.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21

“I have told you these things, so that in me [Jesus] you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:31
